Where Can I Sell My Comics?
Today, there are usually two options: locally or online. We may be a bit biased, but we recommend online. Here’s why.
Locally: Granted, in-person interactions allow the seller to unload their comics locally without the need to ship their books to a buyer. It also allows potential buyers to judge the overall condition of your collection first hand.
However, after thirty years in the business, we know that in-person transactions almost always end up in the buyer’s favour. In these circumstances, face-to-face interactions place so much “social pressure” on the seller that they often end up giving up their books at a deep discount because the buyer “seemed so nice”.
Furthermore, comic shops and dealers will use these in-person meetings to point out the slightest of flaws in the condition of your books in order to lower your expectations and gain your collection for next to nothing.
Online: As mentioned, we are slightly biased toward selling your comics online (especially to us) and for good reason.
Firstly, we make the transaction more objective. Your comics are worth a certain amount and we make you a reasonable offer that makes sense to both parties. There are no “social pressures” to just “give up” your collection because the buyer complimented your home or pleaded that his youngest son is just starting to read and your valuable comic books would be much appreciated.
Your comics are worth money. Through the appraisal process, we find out exactly how much they are worth and then we either make you a reasonable offer based on that figure, or provide you with other viable options for selling your books.
This is why we actually encourage our potential buyers to try their local comic book shop first! In the overwhelming majority of cases, the comic shop will offer less then 1/5 of the actual value of the comic book, justifying their low-ball offer by pointing out minute condition flaws and complaining about their need to cover overhead costs.
We, on the other hand, will offer multiple times the amount of the local comic shop and send you the money for your collection before you even send us your books! No need to meet strangers at your home or drag your collection to a coffee shop parking lot (and potentially drag them back home after a low-ball offer).
